Belnek Castle
The Belnek Castle (also known as Wildeneck or Wildenech) stood near village of Drtija (close to the town of Moravce), where now the village of Belnek is. The Moravce Valley was then named "The Valley of Castles". But of nine castles only one - the Tustanj Castle - is preserved.
The Belnek Castle was first mentioned in year 1390. It was built by Lilienberg family of Mount Limbar, then owned by Celje counts, and from them given to Laaser family. Later owners were: Pavel Scheyr, Leopold Raumschussl, and others.
In year 1635 the castle was damaged in peasant mutiny, and was re-built and re-designed afterwards. In mid-18th century the owner was baron Karel Josef Valvasor, and after that, in 1763, it was bought by count Karel Gotfried Lichtenberg. Later followed many various owners again. Friderik Baraga, known as the missioner for native Americans in Canada, lived on the castle in the time of his youth. In 1901 it was bought by baron Franc Minutillo; the last owner of the castle was his daughter Elizabeta. In 1944 the castle was burned down by communist guerilla. Only fragments of it can be seen today.
